Most reptiles kept in captivity need UVA and UVB radiation for the creation and absorption of vitamin D3.
Vitamin D3 is critical for reptile health and well-being. It assists reptiles with absorption of calcium, critical for bone, muscle and gastrointestinal health. Without Vitamin D3 and calcium, many reptiles can develop severe deficiencies, resulting in eventual seizures, fractures of bones, and death.
It is difficult to mimic the beneficial rays of the sun with artificial lighting. By far, direct, natural sunlight is the best source of UVB and UVA radiation.
There are two different types of lamps presently marketed for reptiles. One is the long flourescent bulb. The other is the Mercury Vapor bulb.
One powerful bulb on the market is from Mega-Ray lamps. We have this bulb available at the clinic.
